Our All Levels Class is designed for beginners and seasoned practitioners alike. We flow through sun salutations, balancing postures, twists, backbends, abdominal exercises, as well as hip openers. We encourage students to flow at their own pace, modify and to rest when needed!
Fundamentals Classes are ideal not only for new students, but also for more experienced practitioners who wish to deepen their knowledge of the basics of alignment and breath. Emphasis is placed on safe, effective alignment principles and a slower version of our flow in order to find ease and enjoyment within the challenge of the practice.
Our Community Class are taught by a newly trained instructor, and are slower then our All Levels classes making them great for beginners. Come practice yoga at a discount this class is only $7!
GP Hip Hop is a dynamic all levels class to hip hop music and modern beats. The energizing music will instantly inspire your body to move. A highlight of this class is tapping into the power of your core. The intention of this class is for everyone to experience yoga in a fun and lighthearted atmosphere. After completing hip hop yoga teacher training at Back Bay Yoga in Boston I knew this style class would be a great addition to Greener Postures. Yoga+hip hop=the perfect way to kick off your weekend!
Restoratives yoga classes are designed to open the body passively and to find a deep sense of relaxation. Using props as necessary, these include bolsters, blocks, blankets and straps, the poses are held for longer periods than vinyasa classes or other active types of yoga, many times for several minutes. By working with the force of gravity, muscles can release tension and provide the body the opportunity to focus on the breath and the release of daily stress . These classes are offered in a warm quiet room and are ideal for all-levels and especially to people new to yoga.
Advance Your Postures This class is designed for experienced students with an understanding of foundational postures and at least 6 months of steady practice. Come be introduced to more advanced variations of balancing, inversions, backbending, and seated poses. Expect a healthy dose of vinyasa and depending on the family of postures offered the composition of the class will differ monthly. Because of the level of this class, please come prepared to suit your needs by modifying as necessary. Held the first Sunday of each month at the South Portland location.
Prenatal Yoga Classes These classes provide a time and space to quiet the mind and connect with your body and growing baby. These classes are designed to help prepare you physically, mentally and emotionally for the process of childbirth. Classes focus on breath awareness through energetic and restorative postures, in a safe, supportive environment where we honor the changing needs of pregnancy through modifications and instruction on proper anatomical alignment. A safe, open community allows you to freely discuss any issues, from discomforts and concerns, to the wonderful new changes your body and baby are experiencing. All levels and all stages of pregnancy are welcome.
Deep Stretch is a great compliment to heat building vinyasa classes. The first half hour will contain a more vigorous style warm up with salutations and core work to build heat and prepare the body for deeper opening. The last 45 minutes will focus on postures that are designed to release tension in the connective tissues of the body. These postures are held for longer durations helping to increase range of motion in the shoulders spine, hips and legs. The class will also focus on breath work to keep the mind present and calm when sensation arises. Deep Stretch is a great option for runners, athletes and anyone who is looking to increase flexibility, decrease stress, and challenge the mind. Studio temperature will be warm to support a safe environment to become fully open. All-levels welcome.
Teen Yoga, 12-16 year olds. These classes are designed to provide a foundational yoga practice along with space for empowerment through self-awareness and healthy living. In each class, students will explore asanas (poses) and pranayama (breath) to experience physical exercise, reduce stress and anxiety, increase confidence and self-esteem, bolster focus and concentration, and build strength, stamina and flexibility. These classes are offered in the unheated Chandra room in West Falmouth.
Kids Yoga 6-11 year olds. This class delivers an opportunity to introduce the basic concepts of yoga in a fun way. Yoga is the joining of breath and movement, passion and concentration, fun and learning. These classes are designed to facilitate an awareness of the mind/body connection by matching movements with breath in creative ways. Kids yoga is an invitation for children to share experiences and perspective on everything in their lives. Often times the greatest challenge with children is to hold their attention long enough to teach them the benefits of yoga: stillness, balance, flexibility, focus, peace, grace, connection, health, self-esteem, and well-being. Together we will weave stories with our bodies and minds in a flow that can only happen in a child’s play. Kids yoga integrates storytelling, games, music, language, and other arts that engage the child as a “whole.” These classes are intended for children ages 6-11 and require no previous yoga experience. Most of all this class offers a safe space for discovering life lessons that echo the yogic principles of interdependence, oneness, and fun!
