At Greener Postures we primarily teach a Vinyasa style of yoga. Vinyasa yoga is characterized by the linking of movement and breath. Essentially the breath dictates the movement and the length of time held in the postures. Attention is also placed on the journey between the postures not just the postures themselves. The purpose of vinyasa is to create heat in the body. Our studios are equipped with systems which circulate heated humidified air. The internal heat created within the body combined with external heated environment of the studios will lead to purification of the body through increased circulation and sweating as well as increased flexibility.
Modern life is full of hassles, deadlines, frustrations, and demands. For many people, stress is so commonplace that it has become a way of life
The body doesn’t distinguish between physical and psychological threats. If you have a lot of responsibilities and worries, your emergency stress response may be “on” most of the time. Long-term exposure to stress can lead to serious health problems. Chronic stress disrupts nearly every system in your body. It can raise blood pressure, suppress the immune system, increase the risk of heart attack and stroke, contribute to infertility, and speed up the aging process. Long-term stress can even rewire the brain, leaving you more vulnerable to anxiety and depression.
How GPY Will Help
GPY is a supportive community. Feeling supported, being part of a community and having a social support network is incredibly important when managing stress.
Yoga helps increase self confidence and with confidence in yourself and your ability to influence events and persevere through challenges, it’s easier to take stress in stride.
At GPY we teach vinyasa yoga which involves movement through the yoga postures combined with stretching. Stretching the muscles alone causes the body to release endorphins, neurotransmitters that when released decrease pain and increase the feeling of euphoria. These “feel good” chemicals will help assist in the decrease of chronic stress. We also offer slower moving classes such restorative and deep stretch. These classes also are phenomenal for reducing stress, and promoting self-awareness, calm and balance.
